form: poem
completed: january 2006
notes: wrote this for someone; don't remember who. kind of bad, but i'm indulging

I'd take you to dinner if you gave me the chance,
go to the disco and teach you to dance.
I'd sit in the aisles and wait for you there;
pick out the burrs in your silky, brown hair.

I'd get on an aer'plane and fly through the dark,
pay all the cab fare to St James's Park,
get lost in Durban, Savoy or Sevilleā€¦
I'd run 'cross the world if I knew you were ill.

I'd sing you a song in the simplest verse
('though rhyming couplets are mankind's greatest curse).
I'd write you a poem, a letter, a book
to get you to give me just one pleasing look.

There is such a coarseness in old seedy rhyme--
a foe I can't conquer at this point in time.
I know that it's corny, but tell me, friend, please:
will you just come set my sick mind at ease?
